Classic Egg Bread
2 pkg. active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups scalded milk, cooled to lukewarm
1 tbsp. salt
3 eggs, lightly beaten
1/4 cup soft shortening OR butter
7 to 7 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp. cold water
Measure water, add 1 tbsp.sugar and stir until sugar dissolves.
Sprinkle yeast over and let stand 10 minutes.
Put scalded milk into large bowl.
Add 3 tbsp.sugar, salt, eggs and shortening and beat together.
Cool to lukewarm, stir in yeast.
