Hydroxycut is commonly sold through direct television marketing, at drug stores and conventional retailers. The product can also be purchased through online retailers. On May 1, 2009, a warning was issued against the product by the US Food and Drug Administration and the supplement was recalled. It was released again after a short-gap. It has reportedly been "reformulated" with improved ingredients. There are as many as 9 products offered by the company, differentiated based on the ingredients used, and users select the pills which suit them the most.

Before 2009, caffeine, green tea, Garcinia cambogia, chromium polynicotinate and Gymnema sylvestre were the main ingredients in the supplement. After the recall, however, ingredients were changed in favor of healthier alternatives. Not only did these changes reportedly make the product safer but also enhanced the conventional Hydroxycut benefits.

As Hydroxycut is touted as a herbal and natural supplement, it is marketed as a supplement which can be taken for extended periods of time. While some users prefer to limit their intake of the diet pills to when they are dieting, some continue to keep the intake constant at 1 pill a day.

Hydroxycut Benefits

While the biggest and most touted benefit of Hydroxycut continues to be its aid in weight-loss, the company insists that there are more advantages to the supplement. It has been reported that unlike traditional weight-loss remedies, the product does not focus on fat-burning and appetite suppression alone. It is said to raise energy levels and enhance the immune system, thereby promoting healthy weight loss. In addition, the supplement is also believed to detoxify the body.

Hydroxycut: Side-Effects

Over the years, there have been reports of various side-effects of Hydroxycut, most of which led to the 2009 recall and revamp of the supplement. Some of the commonly experienced side-effects of the diet pills are increased blood pressure, increased sweating, headaches, dizziness, nausea, light-headedness, complete loss of appetite, restlessness and feeling jittery.

Some products of the brand have been linked to rhadbomyolysis and liver damage. There has also been at least one reported death.

Although the side-effects of Hydroxycut have been less severe since the revamp, these have not been eliminated completely.
