1. Drain out beets and reserve 1 cup liquid.
2. In a bowl add beets and sliced onion. Mix well.
3. In a saucepan add beet liquid, vinegar, sugar, cloves, and salt.
4. Stir well and bring to boil.
5. Pour the liquid over beets and onions.
6. Keep aside until cool.
7. Cover and refrigerate for 1 or 2 days.
8. Drain out beets and onions from marinade with a slotted spoon.
9. Transfer into a bowl and garnish with eggs.
