Beef Steak Pie
|Beef round steak||1 1⁄2 Pound, cut into 1 inch cubes|
|All purpose flour||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Onion||1 Large, cut into pieces|
|Water||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Dried thyme||1⁄4 Teaspoon, crushed|
|Diced raw potatoes||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Pastry topper||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (Adjust Quantity As Needed)|
Toss beef with flour.
In saucepan cook beef and onion in lard till beef is browned and onion is tender.
Add water, 1 teaspoon salt, thyme, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper.
Cover; simmer 1 1/2 hours.
Cover; simmer 20 minutes.
Prepare Pastry Topper.
Turn meat into a 1 1/2-quart casserole; season with salt and pepper.
Cut slits in pastry; place over hot mixture.
Turn under edge; flute.
Brush with milk.
Bake at 450° till golden, about 15 minutes
