Beef Steak Pie

Ingredients
  Beef round steak 1 1⁄2 Pound, cut into 1 inch cubes
  All purpose flour 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Onion 1 Large, cut into pieces
  Lard/Shortening 2 Tablespoon
  Water 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Dried thyme 1⁄4 Teaspoon, crushed
  Pepper 1⁄8 Teaspoon
  Diced raw potatoes 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Pastry topper 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (Adjust Quantity As Needed)
  Salt To Taste
  Pepper To Taste
  Milk 1 Tablespoon
Directions

Toss beef with flour.
In saucepan cook beef and onion in lard till beef is browned and onion is tender.
Add water, 1 teaspoon salt, thyme, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper.
Cover; simmer 1 1/2 hours.
Add potato.
Cover; simmer 20 minutes.
Prepare Pastry Topper.
Turn meat into a 1 1/2-quart casserole; season with salt and pepper.
Cut slits in pastry; place over hot mixture.
Turn under edge; flute.
Brush with milk.
Bake at 450° till golden, about 15 minutes
