Quick Peppercorn Beef Sirloin

Quickly made beef sirloin with minimal ingredients. This recipe definitely tastes simple but good. Try this out.
Ingredients
  Beef sirloin 1 Pound, sliced thick
  Olive oil 1 Tablespoon
  Sea salt 1 Pinch
  Peppercorns 1 Tablespoon, coarsely crushed
  Mushrooms 1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped
  Beef broth 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Heavy cream 2⁄3 Cup (10.67 tbs)
  Tarragon 1 Tablespoon
  Butter 1 Tablespoon
Directions

Rub the beef with olive oil, sea salt and peppercorns and brown it in a skillet for 4-5 minutes till it gets very smoky. Remove the beef and let it rest. In the same skillet, saute mushrooms and add beef broth, heavy cream, tarragon, butter. Now add the beef to the skillet. Let the sauce coat the beef and serve it.

I have had the Peppercorn Sirloin Steaks at restaurants here and have thought that I should definitely make them at home! Now after seeing this recipe i cant wait to try them!! BTW for the Steak au Poivre can i use onions instead of shallots?

What's the difference between onions and shallots ? Till date, I was thinking that both are same :)
