Hearty Beef Short Ribs

These hearty beef shortribs are spicy short ribs prepared in a dutch oven. Cooked along with carrots and onions, this beef short ribs recipe is prepared almost like a meat stew. Savory and flavorful, they can be served over rice.
Ingredients
  All purpose flour 3 Tablespoon
  Brown sugar 2 Tablespoon
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Ground pepper 1⁄8 Teaspoon
  Beef short ribs 3 Pound
  Shortening 2 Tablespoon
  Chopped onion 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Allspice 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Bay leaf 1 Small
  Water 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Carrots 8 Medium
  Onions 8 Small
Directions

Combine flour, sugar, salt, and pepper; dredge ribs in flour mixture.
Reserve remaining flour mixture.
Melt shortening in a large Dutch oven; add ribs, and cook over medium heat until browned, turning meat frequently to brown evenly.
Drain meat; discard drippings.
Stir in remaining flour mixture, chopped onion, allspice, bay leaf, and water.
Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 1 hour and 45 minutes or until meat is fork tender.
Add carrots and whole onions; cover and simmer 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
Discard bay leaf.
