Hearty Beef Short Ribs
|All purpose flour||3 Tablespoon|
|Brown sugar||2 Tablespoon|
|Ground pepper||1⁄8 Teaspoon|
|Beef short ribs||3 Pound|
|Chopped onion||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Bay leaf||1 Small|
|Water||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
Combine flour, sugar, salt, and pepper; dredge ribs in flour mixture.
Reserve remaining flour mixture.
Melt shortening in a large Dutch oven; add ribs, and cook over medium heat until browned, turning meat frequently to brown evenly.
Drain meat; discard drippings.
Stir in remaining flour mixture, chopped onion, allspice, bay leaf, and water.
Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 1 hour and 45 minutes or until meat is fork tender.
Add carrots and whole onions; cover and simmer 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
Discard bay leaf.
