Green Beans Almondine

Ingredients
  Frozen cut green beans/French-style green beans / 1 pound fresh green beans 20 Ounce, cut in 1-inch diagonals (2 Packages)
  Butter/Margarine 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Sugar 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Lettuce leaves 4
  Blanched slivered almonds 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Lemon juice 2 Tablespoon
  Pepper 1 Dash
Directions

1.
Melt half of the butter in a good-sized skillet and add the beans, salt, and sugar.
Stir well and cover with a layer of lettuce leaves.
Cover tightly, bring to a quick boil, turn the heat very low, and cook about 10 minutes, or until just tender.
Or cook the beans in a minimum amount of salted water until tender but still crisp.
Drain.

Sizzle the remaining butter (or all of it if the beans are cooked in water), and brown the almonds quickly, stirring constantly.
Add the lemon juice, a grind of fresh pepper, and pour over the beans.
