Refried Beans

Ingredients
  Dried pinto beans/Pink beans 1 Pound
  Onions 2 Medium, diced
  Water 5 Cup (80 tbs)
  Hot bacon drippings/Butter / margarine / lard 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Directions

Thoroughly wash and drain beans; discard any foreign material.
Combine beans in a 3-quart pan with water and onions.
Soak in cold water overnight or bring to a boil, cover, and remove from heat for 1 hour.
Return to heat, bring to a boil, then cover and simmer (adding more water, if needed) until beans are very tender and mash readily (about 3 hours).
Drain and mash beans with potato masher or electric mixer, adding bacon drippings.
Mix well; continue cooking, stirring frequently, until beans are thickened and fat is absorbed.
Add salt to taste.
