Batter Franks

Ingredients
  Frankfurters 1 Pound
  All purpose flour 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Baking powder 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Cornmeal 2 Tablespoon
  Shortening 3 Tablespoon
  Egg 1 , beaten
  Milk 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
Directions

Wipe frankfurters dry.
Heat fat or salad oil (3 to 4 inches) to 365° in deep fat fryer or heavy kettle.
Measure flour, baking powder, salt and cornmeal into bowl.
Cut in shortening thoroughly.
Stir in egg and milk.
Dip frankfurters into batter, allowing excess batter to drip into bowl.
Fry in deep fat, turning once, until brown, about 6 minutes.
Drain.
If desired, insert wooden skewer in end of each frankfurter.
