For me, this Date Bars is so fundamental to start off my day! I mean, this is so versatile a combination that you may even serve this Date Bars as a healthy breakfast choice, may be as a mid-day nibble or even as a sweet dessert to top off the great meal! Give it a try and mind you will love this recipe quite a lot!
Ingredients
  Shortening 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Sugar 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Egg 1
  Cake flour 3 Cup (48 tbs)
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
  Soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Sour milk 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Chopped nut meats 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Cut dates 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Confectioner's sugar 1 Tablespoon
Directions

Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy.
Add egg and beat thoroughly.
Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and soda together.
Add alternately with sour milk to creamed mixture.
Fold in nuts and dates.
Pour into 2 greased shallow pans.
Bake in a moderate oven (350°F.) 20 to 25 minutes.
Cut into bars, 1 x 4 inches, when still warm and roll in confectioners' sugar.
Store in a tightly covered container.
