|Shortening||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Sugar||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Cake flour||3 Cup (48 tbs)|
|Baking powder||1 Teaspoon|
|Sour milk||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Chopped nut meats||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Cut dates||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Confectioner's sugar||1 Tablespoon|
Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy.
Add egg and beat thoroughly.
Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and soda together.
Add alternately with sour milk to creamed mixture.
Fold in nuts and dates.
Pour into 2 greased shallow pans.
Bake in a moderate oven (350Â°F.) 20 to 25 minutes.
Cut into bars, 1 x 4 inches, when still warm and roll in confectioners' sugar.
Store in a tightly covered container.
