Grape-Nuts Butterscotch Slices

Ingredients
  Sifted flour 3 1⁄2 Cup (56 tbs)
  Baking powder 3 1⁄4 Teaspoon (Calumet)
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Butter/Shortening 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Firmly packed brown sugar 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Eggs 2
  Grape-nuts/Grape nut flakes 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Lemon juice 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Vanilla 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
Directions

Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder and salt, and sift again.
Cream butter thoroughly; add sugar gradually, creaming well.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each.
Add cereal and flavorings; then add flour, mixing well.
Pack dough in lightly greased 9x9-inch loaf pan; cover with waxed paper.
Chill overnight, or until firm enough to slice.
Turn out on board, divide into quarters, and cut into 1/8-inch slices.
Slices may be cut in half, if desired.
Bake on ungreased baking sheet in hot oven (425°F.) for 6 to 7 minutes, or until done.
