|Granulated sugar||1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)|
|Water||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Orange juice||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Sifted all purpose flour||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Brown sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Soft shortening||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Uncooked rolled oats||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Semisweet chocolate chips||6 Ounce|
|Grated orange rind||1 Tablespoon|
|Milk||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
Combine first 4 ingredients, and cook in saucepan until mixture thickens, about 10 minutes.
Measure flour, sugar, salt and nutmeg into bowl, and cut in shortening until texture is that of coarse meal.
Add oats, chocolate chips, rind and milk.
Pack 1/2 the oat mixture into greased 8-inch square pan.
Cover with prune mixture, and spread remaining oat mixture over top.
Press down well, and bake at 325 Ã‚Â°F. 50Ã¢â‚¬â€60 minutes.
Cool, and cut in bars.
For thinner bars use 8" x 10" pan, and bake at 350Ã‚Â°F. 35-40 minutes.
