Royal Cherry Bars
|Sour cherries||1 Can (10 oz)|
|Oatmeal||1 1⁄4 Cup (20 tbs)|
|Flour||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Brown sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Butter||2⁄3 Cup (10.67 tbs)|
|Sugar||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Cornstarch||1 1⁄2 Tablespoon|
Drain cherries, reserving syrup.
Combine oatmeal, flour, brown sugar, soda and salt; cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.
Press half the crumb mixture evenly into greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
Blend sugar and cornstarch in saucepan; stir in reserved cherry syrup.
Cook over low heat until thick and clear, stir- ring constantly.
Add cherries; cool.
Spread cherry mixture over crumb mixture in pan; cover with re- maining crumb mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
Cool; cut into bars.
