Date Oatmeal Bars

Ingredients
  Dates 1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped
  Crust 1
  Raisins 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Water 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  All purpose flour 1 Tablespoon
  Sugar 2 Tablespoon
  Nuts 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), chopped
  Butter 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Baking soda 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Water 1 Tablespoon
  Brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  All purpose flour 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Quick-cooking rolled oats 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon
Directions

In glass bowl combine all filling ingredients except nuts.
Cook, uncovered, on HI (max. power) 3 to 4 minutes, or until mixture boils and thickens, stirring once.
The date filling should be the consistency of jam.
Stir in nuts and set filling aside.
In glass mixing bowl melt butter on HI (max. power) 1 minute.
Dissolve soda in water and add to butter with all remaining ingredients except cinnamon.
Firmly pat two-thirds of mixture in greased 9-inch round glass baking dish.
Spread with date filling.
Stir cinnamon into remaining oats mixture and crumble over top of filling.
Cook, uncovered, on HI (max. power) 7 to 8 minutes, or until top no longer appears doughy.
Rotate dish if mixture seems to be cooking unevenly.
Cool on bread board, covered with foil, before cutting into squares.
