Apple Date Bars
|Sugar||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Chopped peeled apples||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Water||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Chopped dates||8 Ounce (1 Package)|
|All purpose flour/Unbleached flour||1 3⁄4 Cup (28 tbs) (Pillsbury)|
|Baking soda||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Margarine/Butter||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Firmly packed brown sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Rolled oats||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
In medium saucepan, combine sugar, apples, water and dates.
Bring to a boil; reduce heat to low.
Cook until thickened, about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Heat oven to 375Â°F.
Grease and flour 13x9-inch pan.
Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off.
In large bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt.
With pastry blender or fork, cut in margarine until mixture is crumbly.
Add brown sugar and rolled oats; mix well.
Press 3 cups of mixture evenly into greased and floured pan.
Spread evenly with filling.
Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture; press lightly.
Bake at 375Â°F for 18 to 28 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool; cut into bars.
