Plantation Fruit Bars
|Shortening||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Sugar||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Molasses||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Milk||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Flour||2 Cup (32 tbs) (Gold Medal)|
|Baking powder||1 1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Raisins/Cut up dates||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Chopped nuts||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Lemon glaze||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
Heat oven to 350 °
Mix shortening, sugar, egg, and molasses thoroughly.
Stir in milk.
Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting.
Blend dry ingredients; add to milk mixture.
Stir in raisins and nuts.
Spread in greased oblong pan, 13 x 9 1/2 x 2".
Bake 25 to 30 min., or until toothpick stuck in center comes out clean.
When cool, spread with Glaze.
Cut in bars.
