|Shortening||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs) (Part Butter / Margarine)|
|Packed brown sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Flour||1 3⁄4 Cup (28 tbs) (Gold Medal)|
|Rolled oats||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
Prepare Date Filling; let cool.
Heat oven to 400° (modhot).
Mix shortening and sugar thoroughly.
Stir flour, soda, and salt together; blend in.
Mix in rolled oats.
Press and flatten half of mixture over bottom of greased oblong pan, 13x9 1/2 x2".
Spread with cooled Filling.
Top with remaining crumb mixture, patting lightly.
Bake 25 to 30 min., or until lightly browned.
While warm, cut in bars and remove from pan.
