Ooey Gooey Butter Bars

2 layers of cookies all sandwiching salted caramel sauce. These are soft, buttery, indulgent and ooey gooey hence the name and perfect for the holidays! Plus, you only need to make one primary dough.

Ingredients

Crust/topping:
Unsalted buter 8 Ounce (room temperature)
Sugar 1 1/4 Cup (20 tbs)
Vanilla extract 1 Teaspoon
Unbleached flour 2 Cup (32 tbs)
Fine salt 1/4 Teaspoon
Filling:
Brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
Unsalted butter 1/4 Cup (4 tbs)
Salt 1 Pinch
Vanilla extract 1 Teaspoon
Heavy cream 1/2 Cup (8 tbs)

Directions

MAKING:

1. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light, fluffy and pale yellow.

2. Add in the vanilla.

3. Stir in the flour and salt in batches. Do not over mix.

4. Press half the dough onto the bottom of an 8x8 pan to form a crust.

5. Wrap up the other dough half and pop both doughs into the fridge to chill.

6. For the filling, combine everything together and microwave or cook on the stove top until your sauce registers at 225 degrees.

7. Pour the slightly cooled caramel sauce on top of the crust.

8. Tear pieces of the wrapped dough portion and plop onto the top of the caramel sauce.

9. Bake at 350 for 35-45 minutes.

SERVING:

10. Cool before cutting and serving.
