A Bourbon Ball is a sweet candy from the Kentucky state of the United States, which is made with bourbon – a particular kind of American whiskey, along with softened butter, pecans and wafer crumbs, and chocolate. Here, bourbon is the main ingredient, and therefore, it is named as Bourbon Ball.
History
Bourbon ball was made by Ruth Booe from the Rebecca Ruth Candy Company. The balls were made in the Frankfort Kentucky after the dignitary had commented that the two best tastes in the world were Miss Booe’s candy and the Kentucky Bourbon. Mrs Booe started working on the recipe after listening to the comment and came up with bourbon balls after two years.

Preparation
For the Kentucky Bourbon Balls, firstly, the bourbon and the pecans are rested together for a night in a jar. This is done to retain the flavor of the whiskey or the bourbon. The butter and sugar are mixed together and when the right consistency is formed, the bourbon soaked pecans are put into the mixture and rolled to form balls. These balls are then refrigerated for overnight. The chocolate is melted on water in the double boiler. The chocolate is stirred to prevent it from scorching. Once the chocolate is melted, the bourbon balls are rolled into the chocolate mixture and then put on a waxed sheet of paper. This is to be refrigerated until serving.
Serving
Bourbon balls are eaten during the festive season or during the holidays in the United States, predominantly in the states of Southern United States and Kentucky. It is a favorite amongst the southern American families.
