Oriental Style Barbecued Ribs

Ingredients
  Water 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Garlic 4 Clove (20 gm), minced
  Star anise 2
  Onion powder 1 Teaspoon
  Ground cinnamon 1 Dash
  Rice wine 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Soy sauce 3 Tablespoon
  Sugar 2 Teaspoon
  Pork loin back ribs 3 Pound
Directions

1. In a small saucepan combine water, garlic, star anise, onion powder, and cinnamon. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, for 5 minutes. Stir in rice wine, soy sauce, and sugar; cool to room temperature.
2. Meanwhile, cut ribs into 2-rib pieces. Place ribs in a large plastic bag set in a shallow dish. Pour marinade over meat. Seal and turn to coat with marinade. Chill 3 to 8 hours, turning bag occasionally. Drain meat.
3. In a grill with a cover arrange preheated coals around a drip pan for indirect grilling. Test for medium heat above the drip pan. Place ribs, bone side down, on grill rack over drip pan. Cover and grill for 1 to 1 1/4 hours or till meat is tender, brushing with marinade occasionally during the first hour of grilling. Add more coals as necessary during grilling to maintain heat.
