Prune Apricot Squares

Ingredients
  Cooked prunes 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Cooked chopped dried apricots 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Sugar 1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)
  Flour 1 Tablespoon
  Grated lemon rind 1 Teaspoon
  Lemon juice 1 Tablespoon
  Sifted flour 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Quick cooking oats 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Brown sugar 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
Directions

Combine prunes, apricots, sugar, flour, grated lemon rind and lemon juice in a saucepan.
Cook over low heat, stirring oc- casionally until thick.
Cool.
Sift together flour and salt; add oats and brown sugar.
Cut in shortening until mixture is crumbly.
Pack half the dough in bottom of a greased, 8-inch- square pan.
Spread cooled filling over it.
Top with remaining crumbly mixture.
Fat down lightly.
Bake in a moderate oven (350° F) about 35 minutes.
Cool.
Cut into squares.
