Baked Apples

This recipe for baked apples is a very simple and easy recipe for a classic dessert. Made with baking apples, cored and filled with brown sugar, butter and cinnamon, the baked apples can be served warm or refrigerated for serving later on. It goes well with whipped cream.

Core baking apples (e.g., Rome Beauty, Starr, Jersey Red, Winesap, Northern Spy, Golden Delicious or Greening).
Pare 1 inch strip of skin around middle of each apple or upper half of each to prevent skin from splitting.
Heat oven to 375°.
Place apples upright in ungreased baking dish.
Fill center of each apple with 1 to 2 tablespoons granulated or brown sugar, 1 teaspoon butter or margarine and 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon.
Pour water (1/4 inch) into baking dish.
Spooning syrup in pan on apples several times during baking, bake 30 minutes.
Cool 30 minutes.
Cover and refrigerate.
