Simple Baked Apples
|Red apples||6 Large (firm)|
|Granulated sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Water||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Granulated sugar||2 Tablespoon|
Core the apples, then pare them about one-third of the way down from the stem end and arrange in a shallow baking dish.
Boil the 1 c sugar and water together for 10 min and pour over the apples.
Bake in a moderate oven of 350°F until tender, basting frequently.
The time varies with the apples, some taking as long as 1 hr.
Then sprinkle 1 teasp sugar overthepeeled surface of each apple.
Place the pan of apples under the broiler heat, basting them fre quently and watching them carefully until the sugar has melted and the peeled section is a delicate brown.
Serve hot or cold with plain or whipped cream.
Corn syrup may replace half sugar.
If desired, the apple parings may be cooked with the sugar and water for 10 min to givethesyrup some color, the parings being then removed.
