Baked Apple Meringues

Ingredients
  Apples 6 (baked and cooled)
  Egg whites 3
  Salt To Taste
  Sugar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Almond extract 1⁄2 Teaspoon
Directions

Beat egg whites with salt until stiff.
Gradually add sugar, beating until smooth and glossy.
Place apples on cookie sheet.
Thickly cover each with the meringue.
Sprinkle with a few slivered almonds and bake at 325° for 15 minutes, or until light brown.
Can be served as a dessert or as part of the meal.
