Apple Pinwheels

Ingredients
  Flour 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Sugar 1 Teaspoon
  Baking powder 2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Shortening 3 Teaspoon
  Cooking apples 4
  Brown sugar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon
  Butter 2 Teaspoon
  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Cider/Apple juice 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Flour 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
Directions

Combine flour, 1 tsp sugar, baking powder and salt; cut in shortening.
Stir in milk to make a soft dough.
Roll out dough on a floured board to a 16X10 rectangle.
Top with apples, brown sugar and cinnamon.
Dot with butter.
Roll up jelly roll fashion, and cut in two inch slices.
Place slices in a greased 13X9 baking pan.
Syrup: Combine sugar, flour and salt.
Heat cider or juice and stir in sugar mixture.
Cook until slightly thickened and pour carefully over pinwheels.
Bake at 350 degrees, 40 minutes.

Should the apples be sliced or diced?

Aghhhhhh! I'm in the middle of making these and the recipe says, "Stir in milk" but there's NO milk in the ingredients. How much do I use? Help!
