The brown betty is a baked apple and bread crumb dessert made with lemon juice and rind for flavor. A baked dessert, the brown betty is spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg and is delicious and savory along with a spicy sweetness.
Ingredients
  Butter 1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs), melted
  Bread crumbs 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Apples 2 Cup (32 tbs), sliced
  Cinnamon 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Nutmeg 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Sugar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Water 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Lemon 1 , rinded and juiced
Directions

GETTING READY
1.Start by preheating the oven to 350F degrees
MAKING
2.Mix butter and crumbs.
3.Arrange layers of crumbs and apples in greased baking dish.
4.Sprinkle each layer with spices and sugar.
5.Add water mixed with lemon rind and juice.
6.Sprinkle top with crumbs; cover dish.
7.Bake in moderate oven for 30 minutes, remove cover and bake 45 minutes longer.
SERVING
8.Serve with vanilla ice cream
