Creole Ham Steak
|Ham steak||1 , cut 0.5 inch thick|
|Cooking oil||3 Tablespoon|
|Onion||1 , chopped|
|Green pepper||1 , chopped|
|Canned tomato sauce||8 Ounce|
|Ground thyme||1⁄8 Teaspoon|
Trim fat from steak; slash edges to keep from curling.
Brown in 1 tablespoon cooking oil over moderate heat.
Slowly cook onion and green pepper in remaining cooking oil for 5 minutes; add tomato sauce and seasonings.
Cover; simmer about 20 minutes.
Addalittle water if necessary.
Pour half of sauce over ham; simmer 10 minutes.
Reserve remaining sauce to serve with fish or chicken, if desired.
