Waldorf Salad

A mixed salad with apples, celery and walnuts as its heroes. It is usually dressed with a thin mayonnaise and served chilled.
Ingredients
  Apples 4
  Walnuts 1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs), coarsely chopped
  Celery stick with leaves 1
  Lemon juice 1 Teaspoon
  Mayonnaise 200 Gram
  Iceberg lettuce head 1
Directions

MAKING
1. Dice celery and apples.
2. Add lemon juice to avoid discoloration.
3. In a small bowl, combine celery, apples and lemon juice.
4. Add mayonnaise and mix till well coated.
5. Tear lettuce into small bits place in salad bowl.
6. Place apple celery mixture on top.

SERVING
7. Serve chilled.

Story
When this salad was created at New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in 1896 by the dining room manager Oscar Tschirky, no one would have known that it would be such a success. The original version contained only apples and celery. Walnuts became an integral part of the dish later.
