  Baking powder 6 Teaspoon
  Flour 4 Cup (64 tbs)
  Melted butter 4 Tablespoon
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Fresh milk 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)

Sift the flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl.
Add the melted butter to the milk, then stir this liquid into the flour mixture.
Beat well for 1 minute.
The dough forms a heavy batter.
Bake in either two well-greased loaf tins or in one large tin, in a moderate oven for 30 — 40 minutes, depending on the size of the loaf.
Put brown paper on top of the loaf for the first 10 minutes of baking to allow the loaf to rise before the top is set.
Remove after 10 minutes.
For the Fruit Bread: add 1 cup dried fruits (mixed currants, sultanas and candied peel) and 1/2-cup sugar to the dry mixture.
Mix well, then blend into a stiff batter with IVi-cups milk and the melted shortening.
