Old Time Beef Stew

Ingredients
  Beef chuck 2 Pound, cut in 1 1/2 inch cubes
  Fat 2 Tablespoon
  Boiling water 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Worcestershire sauce 1 Teaspoon
  Garlic 1 Clove (5 gm)
  Onion 1 Medium, sliced
  Bay leaves 2
  Salt 1 Tablespoon
  Sugar 1 Teaspoon
  Pepper 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Paprika 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Allspice 1 Dash
  Carrots 6
  Small white onions 1 Pound (24 Pieces)
Directions

Thoroughly brown the meat on all sides in hot fat; add water, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, sliced onion, bay leaves, and seasonings.
Cover; simmer 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally to keep from sticking.
Remove bay leaves and garlic.
Add carrots and onions.
(Cubed potatoes may be added, too.) Cover and cook 30 minutes more, or till vegetables are done.
Remove meat and vegetables.
Thicken liquid for gravy, if desired.
