Popovers That Pop

  All purpose flour 1 Cup (16 tbs) (sifted)
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Milk 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs) (plus 2 tablespoons)
  Eggs 2
  Shortening 1⁄2 Teaspoon, melted

Sift flour and salt.
Add milk gradually to make a smooth batter.
Beat eggs until light and add eggs to batter mixture.
Add shortening.
Beat 2 minutes with beater.
Fill greased muffin rings 2/3 full.
Place in very hot oven (450 degrees).
Bake 30 minutes.
Lower heat to 350 degrees and bake 10 minutes longer.
