Old Fashioned Beef Stew
|Boneless beef round steak||1 1⁄4 Pound, cut into 1-inch cubes and trimmed of fat|
|Diet margarine||1 Tablespoon|
|Hot water||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Salt||1 1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Worcestershire sauce||1 Teaspoon|
|Garlic||1 Clove (5 gm), minced|
|Ground cloves||1 Dash|
|Carrots||8 Medium, quartered|
|Potatoes||4 Small, peeled and quartered|
|Onions||4 Small, quartered|
|Cold water||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
In Dutch oven brown beef in diet margarine, Add the 1 1/2 cups hot wafer, the salt, Worcestershire sauce, bay leaves, garlic, paprika, pepper, and cloves.
Cook, covered, "1/4 hours; stir often.
Remove bay leaves; add vegetables.
Cook, covered, 30 to 45 minutes.
Drain; reserve liquid.
Add water to liquid to equal 1 1/4 cups; return to Dutch oven.
Combine cornstarch and the 1/4 cup cold water; stir into hot liquid, Cook and stir till thickened and bubbly; stir in beef and vegetables.
