Mix all ingredients together to combine.

Season the ground beef with the salt, then divide into 8 pieces. Shape each piece into round, flat disks, about 1/8" thick. Season again with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Place 3 small slices of cheddar cheese in the center of half the beef patties, then top each one with another beef patty. Crimp well with your fingers to seal.
Cook the burgers on a hot griddle set over medium high heat (or on the grill) for 3-4 minutes on each side, until cooked through.
