Almond Crisscrosses

Ingredients
  Sifted all purpose flour 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
  Sugar 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Butter 1 Cup (16 tbs), chilled and cut in pieces
  Egg yolk 1 , slightly beaten
  Almond filling 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (Adjust Quantity As Needed)
Directions

Sift flour, baking powder, and sugar together into a bowl.
Cut in the butter until mixture becomes a soft dough (requires working beyond the stage when particles are the size of rice kernels).
Blend in the egg yolk.
Shape dough into a ball, kneading lightly with fingertips until mixture holds together.
Spread two thirds of the dough evenly over bottom and up 1/4 inch on the sides of a 13x9x2-inch baking pan.
Spread Almond Filling over dough; set aside.
Roll remaining dough 1/8 inch thick on a floured surface.
Using a pastry wheel, cut into strips 3/4 inch wide.
Arrange strips to make a lattice design over the filling.
Bake at 350°F 35 to 40 minutes.
While still warm, cut into bars.
